Proud to be a
Mustang …Choosing Excellence in all that we
do!
October 6,
2006
There are so many things going on and the days keep running
by. We want to recap some
highlights and let you know what we have got planned. As I explained at Back to School Night,
we have many “snapshots” in our heads that make us proud to be part of this
wonderful community…listening to our class leaders speak about “our traditions”
at our class meetings…our first varsity football game …navy blue and gray
everywhere …almost 2000 people in the stands …our marching band, poms, and cheerleaders performing …fast forward to our schoolwide assembly on diversity and acceptance …900
students on the edge of their seats, listening intently to our speaker …all 900
rising for a spontaneous ovation.
Next we can look at our girls soccer team
winning the Hammond Tournament, displaying great competitive drive,
sportsmanship, and such joy when winning in double overtime.
Continuing on to this week….Spirit Week at Marriotts
Ridge High! We have truly
enjoyed seeing the wacky-tacky, twins, and placeHollywood costumes worn by hundreds of our students
this week …check out the pictures on our website. Finally, today …it is simply fantastic
to see the school spirit as our classes “compete” in their colors. We can’t wait for this afternoon’s Pep
Rally!
Before I finish up by mentioning all of the Homecoming
Activities planned for today and tomorrow, I want to talk about two other topics
…Interims and School Safety.
Regarding Interims, Mrs. Veslany, Mr.
LeMon, Ms. Moulds, and I really enjoyed reviewing our
students’ progress reports yesterday.
Many of our students were very proud of their accomplishments so far
…keep up the good work! For those
who need to improve, now is the time to get things in gear and get moving …the
end of the quarter will be here before you know it. Our teachers and guidance counselors are
happy to help in any way that they can.
Hopefully, families have had the chance to review this information or
will do so this weekend. Remember
that there is a lot of good information on our teachers’ web pages which can be
accessed from our school website ….www.marriottsridge.net.
Even though we are always concerned about the safety of
our students and staff, the events of the past few weeks heighten our
awareness. As we continue to grow
as a school community, we are looking at how we can improve what we do to
provide an even safer environment.
Our faculty meetings for this month and November will focus on safety and
emergency preparedness. We will
share pertinent information with our students and families as needed. Please know that we consider this a
high priority. Along the same
lines …we need everyone’s help related to another school environment issue …we
have experienced several thefts recently when students leave their belongings in
an unsecured location in the building.
We, as a staff, are trying even harder to make sure our assigned areas
are secured. We are also actively
investigating these cases. Please
help us by reminding your son/daughter to make sure that their belongings are
locked up at all times …and, of course, we must reinforce again that valuable
belongings should be left at home if at all possible.
Finishing up on a high note …Homecoming
Activities. Thanks to those families who purchased
Spaghetti Dinner tickets for tonight in support of our AfterProm program …a few tickets are still available at the
door …5-8 PM in the Cafeteria.
Today’s Powder Puff Football game has been rescheduled for
October 27 at 7 PM in Mustang Stadium …tickets are $5 at the door …it will
be great fun watching the girls play football and the boys lead the cheers…the
“practices” have been very entertaining.
JV Football has also been postponed to Monday afternoon.
On Saturday we have our Poms Pancake Breakfast in the Cafeteria from
8-11 AM…tickets can be bought at the door.
The Mighty Mustangs
take on the Atholton Raiders at 1 PM …be there to cheer them onto
victory! The weekend
will capped off with our Homecoming Dance from 8-11 PM. Tickets were sold all week in school
…they can’t be sold at the door according to county policy. In addition, students are not allowed to
enter after 9 PM unless something has been prearranged with an
administrator. We can’t wait to see
our students in their finest, enjoying an evening of dancing and hanging out
with friends. As Saturday is a very
long day, please make sure our students are picked up at 11
PM.
Thanks to our PTSA, Boosters, AfterProm Committee, our staff, and OUR STUDENTS for making this a great week …see you around The Ridge.
