Ms. Rosalie Bowen

Rosalie Bowen comes to the land of the mustangs with rich experiences. A graduate of The Western High School in Baltimore and the University of Maryland College Park, she began her teaching career as a mathematics teacher at Arbutus Junior High School in 1964. She moved with her husband, Skip, and newborn son, TrIIIp, to Bristol, Tennessee, in 1965, where she taught at Holston Valley High School for three years and earned her MS in mathematics. Mr. Bowen's job returned the family to Maryland in 1968 and Mrs. Bowen came to Howard County to teach and head the mathematics department at Glenelg High School. She left Glenelg in February, 1971, to open Wilde Lake High School as mathematics instructional team leader. An original wildecat, she became an administrator in 1973 and remained at Wilde Lake until she was transferred to gladiator land at Glenelg in 1986. In 1989 Mrs. Bowen was transferred to Hammond High School, home of the golden bears, where she served only one year and was then transferred again to Oakland Mills High School as the third assistant principal in the school (a rarity at that time). After serving the scorpion community for 10 years, Mrs. Bowen was moved to lion country at Howard High School in 2000 where she served 7 years.

For fifteen years beginning in 1991, Mrs. Bowen chaired the statewide Assistant Principals' Committee for the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals and coordinated its annual conference for Maryland assistant principals. In 1993, Mrs. Bowen became a Field Force Representative (civilian liaison person) for the United States Military Academy at West Point and continues to work with Howard County students who want to attend any of the US service academies. For service to students and their families, to the Howard County Public School system, and to the state of Maryland, Mrs. Bowen was awarded the 1997 Maryland Assistant Principal of the Year award by NASSP/MASSP.

Mr. and Mrs. Bowen live in Howard County where Mr. Bowen is a realtor with Century 21, HT Brown.

All of these opportunities to work with students and their families have given Mrs. Bowen a multitude of experiences for her to share with us. She is settling into her new environment here at Marriotts Ridge, is very excited to be working with our inaugural senior class and its commencement, eagerly anticipates having students, staff, and parents back in the building, and is "chomping at the bit" to wear the blue and silver!
